In the statement, it was stated that those who caused the deaths of dozens of people by producing or selling counterfeit alcohol were no different from terrorism, and added: “Since January 1, 2025, 34 people have lost their lives in Istanbul due to the use of counterfeit alcohol. We consider that those who caused the death of dozens of our citizens by producing or selling fake alcohol are no different from the terrorists who kill our people. Our fight against the scoundrels who attempt to kill our people for the sake of their financial interests will continue uninterruptedly, as it has done so far. The inspection teams of our Police, Municipality and Agriculture directorates continue their inspection work uninterruptedly. In this context, our police units carried out operations at many addresses throughout Istanbul, and during the operations, 6 people who were found to be putting large amounts of fake alcohol into the market were detained. Two of the individuals were arrested by the court for Intentional Murder and sent to prison. Security procedures for 4 of the individuals are ongoing. In the operations carried out since January 1, 2025, 29 tons of fake alcohol were seized, and 64 businesses that were found to sell fake or smuggled alcohol were closed by revoking their licenses. The judicial process initiated against the business officials continues. “A total of 302 tons of counterfeit alcohol were seized during the operations carried out in 2024.”
